OVERVIEW

This internship serves as an introduction to basic engineering support elements, such as vendor information, ESWBS structure, configuration equipment hierarchical structure, technical manuals, among others.  Will gain an understanding of the equipment, vendors, and processes used in ship design.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

No significant supervisory work required. May provide some technical guidance for design personnel.

 

EDUCATION:

Pursuing Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in any engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Enrolled within an engineering discipline at an accredited university.
  • This Internship classification requires completion of at least one year of undergraduate studies from an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Engineering.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under close supervision, the Intern will be responsible for executing routine tasks that are clearly defined and involve the application of standard design techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Activities will be directly initiated, supervised, and reviewed by senior-level specialists and engineers.
  • Typical duties include but not limited to reading and interpreting technical data, organizing equipment structure into logical hierarchical structures, professional contact with vendors and customers by email, phone, and in person, learning basic engineering support data – such as ESWBS structure, Marine Terminology, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

This role will collaborate within a multi-discipline team in an effort to fully develop, deliver and complete a successful project.  As part of this collaborative effort, this role requires the presence of the individual working within a group setting, with regular interaction during meetings and one-on-one, face-to-face discussions with other individuals on the team on a daily basis.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general technical data and organize complex information into logical order.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work and apply fundamental mathematical concepts to practical situations.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.  Will occasionally participate in field trips to operating sites. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise.
